A Veterans Day Message from Staff Sergeant (ret.) Joey Jones, USMC EOD
Camp Southern Ground Spokesperson & Military Advisor
This year marks a very special holiday season at Camp Southern Ground as we prepare for our first weeklong summer camp sessions. The journey here started long ago to build and develop more than the typical camp, serving children with diverse needs in an inclusive environment. As a retired Marine I can’t thank our team enough for their hard work, dedication, and perseverance in fulfilling this dream – victory is just ahead!
As many of you know, patriotism is a key Program of Purpose here at CSG. We believe the purest form of patriotism is caring for the men and women we pass on the street simply because we share this unique and amazing country with them. As our campers enjoy camp they learn about the freedoms we share as Americans and how important it is that we believe in one another and respect each of our differences. The freedom to be different and enjoy so many things in life is something we thank our service men and women for daily.
Many of our campers come from a military home, have lost a parent in conflict, or have had a parent severely wounded in service. This Veterans Day we honor and reflect on those amazing children and the sacrifice their family has made to ensure all of our safety and security here at home. Camp Southern Ground has made a commitment to serve those who serve and we are honored to host their children as a part of our camper population!
On behalf of Zac and Shelly, our amazing staff, and our dedicated volunteers, I would like to thank you for your support. Camp Southern Ground is not only a place for kids to learn and grow, but also a place that recognizes the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women and helps mold the next generation of kind-hearted patriots who love and respect this beautiful country!
Semper Fidelis and Ooh-Rah, Happy Veterans Day!
-Johnny “Joey” Jones
