Camp Southern Ground will provide campers, parents and visitors a warm arrival plaza to meet and greet with camp leaders and staff. It will consist of open aired covered porches for gatherings, an information center, and the camp’s administrative offices.
The Technology Center will bring the highest standards of research and education technology to Camp Southern Ground. Built completely underground, this state-of-the-art facility will deliver Zac Brown’s vision of creating a global “think tank”, allowing experts to share the latest innovated technologies and development in the field of neurobehavioral research, education, and training.
The Multipurpose Building will provide campers an indoor climate controlled sports facility with a full-size gymnasium for recreational programs and activities. The attached amphitheater, visible from the interior or exterior, will allow campers the opportunity to share their talents with fellow campers, counselors, staff, parents and guests.
Camp Southern Ground will provide a non-denominational place of fellowship and community for our campers. Campers will gather at the Chapel in the spirit of togetherness to open their hearts and give thanks through song and spiritual discourse.
Camp Southern Ground’s knowledgeable artists and instructors will guide campers in learning about instruments, making music videos, writing songs, producing videos, and performing. Utilizing a fully functional recording studio, campers will be encouraged to try new things, venture out of their comfort zone, and perhaps find their musical niche.
Camp Southern Ground will open the world of art to campers utilizing multiple paths of creativity, innovation, and design. With the guidance of knowledgeable and talented leaders, campers will unlock their imaginations through inspiration, displaying their original works in the Arts Center gallery.
A 48,000 square foot state-of-the-art Aquatics Center, including a 7,900 square foot swimming pool, will provide campers refreshing outdoor recreational fun. The pool area with zero-entry will allow full access to those with disabilities and spray pads are being designed to help children with sensory integration issues.
Beautifully and thoughtfully designed, each two-story lodge will contain generously sized sleeping quarters with flexible bunks, bathroom facilities, elevators, and a large community area with a fireplace. During retreat season, rooms can be divided into hotel style accommodations for families, corporations, and special interest groups.
The Peterson Dining Hall located at the heart of Camp Southern Ground offers breathtaking views of the campus’s rolling hills and dense greenery. The state-of-the-art facility is flushed with natural light, and upon entering visitors are greeted by cathedral ceilings made from Sapele Mahogany donated by Bob Taylor of Taylor Guitars. The Peterson Dining Hall can comfortably seat up to 450 campers at each mealtime, and up to 300 guests for special events and conventions. The Dining Hall features family-style dining with functional dumb-waiters transporting meals to be served from the ultramodern kitchen on the lower level.
Designed by the globally renowned architectural firm, Perkins+Will, the dining hall is not only a modern work of art, but its sustainable features and architectural innovations will enhance energy efficiency as well as support the mission of Camp Southern Ground in its efforts toward organic farming and nutritional education.
Located in the heart of Camp on over 15 acres, Camp Southern Ground’s certified Organic Farm will be utilized to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for Peterson Hall and educate campers on the importance of good nutrition.
The Adventure Center will be filled with fun and challenging outdoor activities while participating in high and low ropes courses, riding zip lines and scaling the alpine tower. Campers will have the opportunity to venture out of their comfort zones while building confidence, trust and new skills.
The aptly titled Space Crab Treehouse, located just out of sight on Camp Southern Ground, was named for its unique structure and its close resemblance to a horseshoe crab. Designed in part by Zac Brown and Pete Nelson of Animal Planet’s Treehouse Masters, the Space Crab hideaway in the woods provides a “Knights of the Round Table” style design for camper sessions or as a facility rental.
Camp Southern Ground completed Phase 1 – infrastructure development and construction of its 12,000 square foot Shade-Pavilion, which will provide campers an outdoor shaded recreational area and concession kitchen. Also recently completed is the centerpiece of camp, the Peterson Dining Hall as well as the unique Space Crab Treehouse.
Plans are in place to begin Phase 2 – the most critical elements to allow residential camp to begin. We call Phase 2 our “Core Essentials”. The buildings include: Boys’ and Girls’ Lodges, the Aquatics Center, and an expanded Adventure Center and Certified Organic Farm.
With Camp Southern Ground’s “Core Essentials”, camp operations will be under way. Boot Campaign Teams Up With Camp Southern Ground!
Camp Southern Ground is happy to announce our partnership with the Boot Campaign. Zac Brown’s support of the Boot Campaign’s mission has led to a joint initiative called “Boots on the Southern Ground,” focused on building a military-themed adventure course that will give campers a glimpse into the training elements service members experience.
Chris Kyle Frog Foundation and Boot Campaign Team Up With Camp Southern Ground
As part of Zac Brown’s unwavering commitment to our American freedoms and Armed Services, Camp Southern Ground is proud to have partnered with Chris Kyle Frog Foundation and Boot Campaign in support of military families. With the support of Boot Campaign and Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, CSG’s Adventure Center is well underway. Already complete is a military-style high and low ropes course, and in design is an Alpine climbing tower and zip lines – elements that allow campers to venture out of their comfort zones while building confidence, trust and new skills.
In addition, we will work together in partnership to support military families by providing a summer camp experience to children who are coping with the deployment of a parent, or those who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Experiencing outdoor adventures and building lifelong relationships provides a comforting respite for these youngsters. Camp Southern Ground will also offer a “Retreat” environment for military families to spend quality time together and foster a rejuvenating time as a family unit.
The aim of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation is to provide meaningful, interactive experiences to service members, first responders and their families, aimed at enriching their family relationships. For more information visit chriskylefrogfoundation.org.
The mission of Boot Campaign is to promote patriotism for America and our military community; raise awareness of the unique challenges service members face during and post-service; and provide assistance to military personnel, past and present, and their families.
